Unwanted Hair

Stop managing it. Start reducing it.

Most people arrive here having spent years on maintenance — shaving, waxing, threading, plucking — and wanting to stop. The question is rarely whether to do something about it, but which method actually suits your hair, your skin, and the area you want treated.

The approach

How we actually fix it.

The honest comparison first. Shaving is free and endless. Waxing buys three to four weeks and requires growing the hair out in between, which many patients dislike more than the waxing itself. Threading is precise for brows but impractical for anything larger. Electrolysis is the only method the FDA lets anyone call permanent removal, and it genuinely works on white, grey, and blonde hair that lasers can't see — but it treats one follicle at a time, which makes it slow and expensive for large areas.

Laser hair removal sits where most people land, because it treats a whole area at once and produces lasting reduction rather than temporary removal. It works by targeting pigment in the follicle, which is the key to understanding both its strength and its limits: it excels on hair with pigment in it, and it does very little for grey, white, or very fine blonde hair no matter which device is used. We'll tell you that at the consult rather than after you've paid for a series.

Skin tone used to be the other limit, and it isn't anymore. Our long-pulse laser is calibrated for Fitzpatrick types I through VI, with settings confirmed against your skin with a test patch. The old reputation for laser being unsafe on deeper skin tones came from earlier-generation alexandrite devices — what matters now is wavelength and an operator who adjusts for you.

For fine facial vellus hair — the soft peach fuzz that catches makeup and light — dermaplaning is the better tool. It's a surgical-blade exfoliation with no downtime that removes the hair and the top layer of dead skin at once. And no, it doesn't grow back thicker; that's the most persistent myth in aesthetics.

It's also worth naming what unwanted hair sometimes signals. Coarse hair appearing on the chin, jawline, or upper lip, particularly if it's new, can point to PCOS or another hormonal shift. Laser will still treat the hair effectively, but knowing what's driving it changes the maintenance conversation — hormones keep recruiting new follicles, so the goal there is sustained control rather than a finish line.
