What chemical peels actually do.
Chemical peels are one of the oldest tools in dermatology for a reason: they work. We use SkinMedica's Illuminize, Vitalize, and Rejuvenize peels — three escalating depths that let us tailor treatment intensity to each patient.
Most patients start with Illuminize (the lightest peel) to see how their skin responds, then graduate to Vitalize for more visible results, and Rejuvenize when deeper correction is needed. Working up gradually means stronger, safer outcomes than jumping straight to the most aggressive option.
For stubborn pigmentation we also offer the VI Peel Precision Plus — a medium-depth peel that pairs the classic VI Peel blend (TCA, salicylic acid, retinoic acid, and vitamin C) with dedicated pigment-correcting boosters like hydroquinone and kojic acid. It suppresses the overactive melanin production behind melasma, sun spots, and post-acne dark marks, and it's formulated to be safe across all skin tones, including deeper Fitzpatrick types where many peels can't go.
You'll leave a VI Peel appointment with a take-home post-peel kit. Visible peeling starts around day 3 and finishes by day 7 — most patients see noticeably brighter, more even skin within a week, with stubborn pigment improving over a short series.
During your consultation we'll select the peel that fits your skin type, your schedule, and what you're trying to treat. Lighter peels are perfect before an event; deeper peels tackle more stubborn pigmentation or texture but require real downtime.
