Lip Filler

Your lips, with the volume they used to have.

Hyaluronic-acid lip filler from Juvéderm and Restylane restores volume, evens out shape, and softens the lip border — placed conservatively, built over more than one visit, and fully reversible if you change your mind.

Start with a consult
Real plan. Real number. No pressure.
Treatment time
30–45 minutes, including numbing
Downtime
Swelling for 24–72 hours, peaking on day two. Most patients go back to work the next day. Bruising is possible and usually covers with makeup after day one.
Results
You will see volume immediately, though the first few days are mostly swelling rather than result. Most swelling settles within two weeks, and we see you back at four weeks, once the product has fully integrated, to judge the real outcome together. A syringe of hyaluronic acid in the lips typically lasts 9 to 12 months — faster than cheeks or jawline, because the mouth is always moving.
About this treatment

What lip filler actually does.

Lip filler has a reputation problem, and most of it comes down to dose and placement rather than the product itself. Hyaluronic acid is the same family of material whether a result looks natural or not — what differs is how much goes in, which layer it sits in, and whether the person injecting is reading your anatomy or following a template. We treat lips conservatively on a first visit and plan to build, because a lip that looks right at four weeks is a better outcome than one that looked dramatic on day one.

Most people who come in asking for lip filler are not asking to be bigger. They are asking for their lips back — the shape they had in their twenties, or an upper lip that has quietly flattened and now disappears when they smile. Those are volume-replacement conversations, and they usually take less product than patients expect. We will tell you if half a syringe does what you are describing.

Juvéderm and Restylane both sit in the hyaluronic-acid family but behave differently in lip tissue. Juvéderm products tend to be smoother and more cohesive, which reads as softness and works well for hydration and gentle volume. Restylane is firmer and holds its shape more, which is useful when the goal is definition along the lip border or structure in a flat upper lip. Neither is better — they are different tools, and we pick based on what your lips are actually missing. Juvéderm is an Allergan product and Restylane is Galderma's, so either way your visit earns points through the Allē and Aspire rewards programs.

Maria plans and places every lip treatment here personally, and uses a needle rather than a cannula in the lips, where precision at the border matters more than it does in the midface. Topical numbing comes first — lips are sensitive, and there is no reason to be uncomfortable for 30 minutes. If you want more after everything has settled, your four-week follow-up is included, and adding is straightforward. Starting smaller costs you nothing but a second appointment.

If you have had lip filler elsewhere and it is not sitting the way you wanted — product that has drifted above the lip line, one side fuller than the other, or a result that reads heavier than you asked for — that is fixable, and it is a real part of our practice. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase and rebuilt once the tissue settles. We will give you a straight read on whether dissolving, adjusting, or simply waiting for it to metabolize is the right call.

Lip filler patients come to us from North Haven, New Haven, Hamden, Wallingford, Branford, and across the shoreline — many of them first-timers who wanted a nurse practitioner who would talk them out of too much rather than up to it. Lips are often someone's first injectable, and we would rather be the practice that made it an easy decision. A lip flip is sometimes the better starting point, and if what is bothering you is really the whole lower face rather than the lips themselves, that becomes a facial balancing conversation instead.

Who's a good candidate

Healthy adults over 21 who are not pregnant or breastfeeding. If you get cold sores, tell us — we will pre-treat with an antiviral so a flare does not interrupt your healing. If you have an event coming up, book at least two weeks ahead.

Possible side effects

Swelling and tenderness for a few days are expected. Bruising at injection points is common and temporary. Small lumps can occur as product settles and usually soften on their own within two weeks; if one does not, we adjust it at your follow-up.

Aftercare

Ice in short intervals for the first 24 hours. Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first two nights. No heavy exercise or alcohol for 48 hours. Avoid dental work and vaccinations for two weeks.
