What lip flip actually does.
A lip flip uses two to six micro-units of neurotoxin — Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin — placed with precision along the border of the orbicularis oris, the muscle that wraps the mouth. Relaxing just the surface fibers lets the upper lip unfurl and roll gently outward, showing more of the pink of the lip at rest and especially when you smile. Nothing is added and nothing changes shape; it's your lip, more visible.
At The Beauty Spot, the lip flip consult is really a lip assessment. If the upper lip disappears when you smile, a flip alone may be all you need. If the lip is thin at rest, a small amount of filler may serve you better — and for many patients the honest answer is the combination, often staged so you can see what the flip does first. A flip is also one of our favorite tools for a gummy smile, where a slightly different placement relaxes the muscles that over-lift the lip.
