Sculptra
Rebuild your own collagen — gradually, naturally.
An FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulator that prompts your body to rebuild its own collagen over several months — restoring soft volume and improving skin quality across the face, and (off-label) the décolletage, hands, and body. The result looks like your own skin, because it is.

- Treatment time
- 45–60 minutes
- Downtime
- Minimal — mild swelling, redness, or small bruises for 3–7 days. The 'rule of 5s' massage is required for 5 days after each session.
- Results
- Subtle changes at 4–6 weeks, full collagen result at 3–6 months. Typically a series of 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Results last up to 2 years.
What sculptra actually does.
Sculptra isn't a filler in the usual sense. Rather than sitting under a line to plump it, the poly-L-lactic acid microparticles signal your fibroblasts to lay down fresh collagen over the weeks and months that follow. As the PLLA gradually breaks down into water and carbon dioxide, the collagen it stimulated is what remains — which is why the result reads as your own tissue, not as product.
Because it works on so many areas, we treat Sculptra as a structure-and-quality tool. On the face, it rebuilds soft volume in the cheeks and temples and firms early laxity. Off-label — but well-supported in the literature — it's one of our favorite options for crepey skin on the décolletage and the backs of the hands, where thinning skin shows age first. Maria plans every Sculptra series conservatively, because the collagen keeps building after you leave; over-correcting on day one is the classic mistake.
Most patients complete a series of two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, then enjoy results that hold for up to two years. We see patients across North Haven, Hamden, Wallingford, Branford, and the wider Greater New Haven area who choose Sculptra specifically because they want a slow, natural-looking investment in their skin rather than an overnight change.

Healthy adults — usually mid-30s and older — who want gradual, natural volume and skin-quality improvement and are willing to follow the post-treatment massage protocol. Not for patients who need an immediate, same-week result, or who have a history of keloid scarring. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A consultation confirms candidacy.
Redness, swelling, and bruising for a few days are common. The most relevant risk is small bumps or nodules under the skin — uncommon with modern higher-dilution technique and diligent massage, and treatable if they occur.
Follow the 'rule of 5s': massage each treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. Avoid heavy exercise and heat for 48 hours. Stay hydrated.
